Call for Bundoran Time Capsule suggestions
As part of the 100 Years of Democracy exhibition currently taking place at the Bundoran Civic Offices to mark a centenary of Bundoran Town Council, plans are being revealed for the sealing of the Time Capsule which is to be placed in Bundoran Community Library for 25 years from August 23rd this year, during Bundoran Heritage Weekend.
The time capsule, keeping with the democracy theme, is an old ballot box currently on display at the 100 Years of Democracy exhibition and is kindly donated by Bundoran Town Council. A list is currently being drawn up of items to be placed in the capsule relevant to 2014 which will include newspapers from the day, magazines, a TV guide, photographs, DVDs, minutes from the final council meeting and more. These physical items will also be replicated on a digital format, which will be included in the time capsule. A backup copy will be held at the Donegal County Archive in Lifford.
Rory Gallagher of Bundoran Community Library said ‘while we have an idea ourselves of what we want to put into the time capsule, we would now like to hear some suggestions of what else could go in. We don’t want to open it in 25 years time and say “we really should have included that”. We are hoping to involve the local school children and get their thoughts of what Bundoran will be like in 25 years time in 2039 as well as undertaking a photography project using social media to capture the Bundoran of 2014.’
Bundoran Tourism Officer Shane Smyth added ‘this will be an important item in Bundoran’s history and moreso in 2039 when it is finally opened and residents of Bundoran can recall how life was in 2014. We would love as much input as possible from any interested parties as to what we should include in the time capsule and we welcome suggestions in person at Bundoran Community Library or to our email address firstname.lastname@example.org.
